The following represent the percentage point differences between the voter turnout
rate of eligible 18-24 year-olds in a state in 1972 and 2004, starting with states that have seen the largest increases in youth voting and ending with states that have witnessed the greatest decreases. All are rounded to the nearest percentage point. States where sample sizes are too small to reliably estimate youth turnout are not included (AK, DE, DC, HI, MT, ND, RI, SD, VT, WY). Nationally, youth voting declined by 5 percentage points from 1972-2004.
