Carnegie Corporation of New York and CIRCLE release a major new report on civic education entitled The Civic Mission of Schools. It was written by 57 authors/endorsers, including individual scholars and practitioners and representatives of such organizations as the American Federation of Teachers, American Political Science Association, American Bar Association, Center for Civic Education, National Conference of the Social Studies, and Education Commission of the States. The report was formally received at a Washington, DC press conference by John Bridgeland, Assistant to the President of the United States and Director of the USA Freedom Corps.
